Why Call Mr. Obama Black?

Reflecting on some of the burning issues of our time from a Christian perspective. by Dr Robert Peprah-Gyamfi

I have over the last several months followed the campaign for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination for the November presidential election in the US.
In the event, I have gained the impression that the majority of the world population has come to regard Mr Barack Obama as a black man.

In my opinion, the fact that this is so reflects the pathological state of the human mind, the mind that has not only rebelled against our Creator God, but is constantly at work to sew seeds of division wherever possible.

Yes, it really blows my mind that the world has come to an overwhelming consensus that Mr Obama is a black man!
Ladies and gentlemen of the world jury, have we thrown common sense to the dogs?

Mr Obama, as he himself has stated in his autobiography, DREAMS FROM MY FATHER, was conceived through the coming together of two individuals endowed with different skin colours. Though differing in appearance to the human eye, viewed under the microscope, the cellular structure of both skins would be identical. Each would contain about the same number of melanocytes per square millimetre of skin surface. Melanocytes are the cells that produce melanin, the pigment that gives colour to the skin. Indeed, the melanin-producing cells are distributed equally in the skins of the children of God, irrespective of which part of the planet they happen to live.
Because the ancestors of Mr Obama’s father moved to live in the scorching African heat, over the years their melanocytes became active in the production of melanin. That would account for their present dark skin tones. It is not for nought that Almighty God caused it to be so, for melanin serves as a shield of protection against certain rays of the sun which otherwise would be dangerous to the body as a whole.

On the other hand, the ancestors of Mr Obama’s mother having moved to settle in cold Europe where the sun rarely shines, and shines more obliquely when it does, did not have the same need for protection from the sun, certainly not to the extent that the ancestors of Mr Obama needed. Over the years, the melanocytes of her ancestors became somewhat dormant in their ability to produce melanin. Eventually, they migrated to the USA.

Obviously, not everyone will be convinced with this explanation. Well and good. The sperm of Mr Obama’s father and the egg of his mother on their part did not wait for universal approval for their union. Not at all. As far as the two types of cells are concerned, the term ‘discrimination’ is non-existent. So without any hesitation, they fuse together in an eternal union. And so it happened! At the very moment, indeed in the twinkling of an eye, when the egg and the sperm of the two parents fused to form a new and eternal partnership - a new life was formed - and Heaven sanctioned and sealed the union!

It was a union for life; not the kind that is sealed today, only to be separated tomorrow; not the kind of marriage celebrated with intense kissing before paparazzi cameras and the world press today, only to break up in curses and acrimony before the family court tomorrow.

After the individual so created through the above union had spent about 40 weeks developing in the womb of his loving mother, he was finally delivered into the world.

And so, good friends of the world media, why all the fuss about Mr Barack Obama being a black man? Are we now all of a sudden implying that black is dominant to white? To me that is what it boils down to, when we choose to neglect the mother-factor in Mr Obama’s creation.

I can picture in my mind’s eye his dear mother - you may call her white, I prefer to call her an individual created in the image of God - weeping in her grave for being disowned of any association with her own son, the son she spent not only forty long weeks carrying around, but for whose upbringing she was mainly responsible.

May God Almighty through His Son Jesus Christ have mercy on us all! May all men of goodwill say AMEN to that
